Here at the BEST WESTERN Old Tollgate Hotel we are committed to the operation of
our business with consideration for both the protection of and reducing our impact
on the environment. We will also strive to take an active role in supporting the
local community and caring for our immediate environment.
We encourage our staff
and guests to be aware of Corporate Social Responsibility practices and actively
participate in our efforts to be socially and environmentally responsible in everything
we do.
Local community and environment policy aims and achievements
We have ensured
easy access to our Hotel and provide general facilities within the Hotel for disabled
guests, including a lift which can access bedrooms in the main Hotel. We also have
a specially designed bedroom for mobility impaired guests.
We use local suppliers
whenever possible to reduce transport mileage, co2 emissions, air miles and our Carbon
footprint.
We are a Corporate member of the local Sussex Wildlife Trust.
We ensure
the Hotel, grounds and gardens are well kept, tidy and attractive in keeping with
the rest of the beautiful, award winning small village community to which we belong.
We
employ a “Green” gardener and are planting with a view to encourage butterflies and
other beneficial residents. We have installed bird boxes and feeders and a ladybird
hotel. A further bug hotel is under construction.
We have a “Green” notice board in
the Hotel and information sheets in guest bedrooms to advise and display to our guests
our current environmental initiatives and local information.
Wider environmental policy aims and initiatives
We have gained a “Silver “ award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme and are working towards our “Gold”.
We have a strong and active Green Team who promote energy and wastage reduction, recycling wherever possible and a “green” environment within the hotel and grounds, and is committed to raising awareness of the issues involved.
Our Green Team leader was short listed for a National award sponsored by the Considerate Hoteliers Association.
Our Hotel was short listed for the local Business Awards in the Green Business category.
We actively investigate ways to save electricity, gas and water and closely monitor our usage.
Hot water and heating boilers are well maintained and controls set for optimum energy and comfort levels. Refrigerators are serviced regularly and all appliances replaced with environmentally friendly models as required and obsolete models disposed of correctly.
We have replaced boilers with more energy efficient models through the Carbon Trust.
We encourage guests to re-
Individual controls in some bedrooms have energy saving switches and corridor heating is set to maximise energy usage. We switch off heating, lighting and appliances when not required and encourage guests to do so.

and bottles and re-
